Shepherds Pie (Allergy friendly)

Look at this face,
A-dor-a-ble
I love this face.

Tonight I made a recipe that I thought was share worthy
I saw that we had an extra lb. of ground turkey when i went out to the deep-freeze yesterday
and i think i have been dreaming ever since what i could make that was:
1. different than the reg. tacos, spaghetti, chili
2. something that I thought Roe would eat.

I don't know what made me think of Shepherds Pie but here we are

Allergy Friendly Shepherds Pie
(Dairy free, Egg free, Gluten free, etc. etc.)

Ingredients:
1 lb ground turkey (or beef.... we also have a beef allergy so turkey is our food of choice)
1 can tomato sauce
3 cloves garlic minced
1 tbs sugar
salt
pepper
1/2 onion
1 red pepper
1 green pepper
2 tbs evoo
1/2 cup red wine
4-5 medium sized potatoes
1/2 -3/4 box vegetable broth
garlic salt

1. Heat oven to 350.   In a large pan brown meat, drain if needed.  Add tomato sauce, red wine, salt, pepper, sugar, and 1/2 minced garlic.  Allow to simmer on stove for 25- 30 minutes, stirring occasionally
2. Clean and puncture potatoes, cook in microwave ( or whatever is your preferred method for cooking potatoes) until done.  Allow potatoes to cool, then peel.
Mash potatoes, with remaining garlic, adding broth slowly until desired consistency.
I added prob 3/4 of box... very slowly mixing as I went.

3. Transfer meat mixture to Pyrex dish and clean pan.  I used the same pan to cook mixture of diced red and green peppers and onion minced.  Cook in evoo for 5-10 minutes until cooked well.
4. Layer (1) beef, (2)peppers and onions then (3)potatoes
Bake in pre-heated oven for 35 minutes until bubbly along the edges.

Ok, so i am not such a great food photographer but here's the family consensus on the meal.

I liked it,  but I may not be the best judge..... I like almost everything.
TA............ HAD SECONDS (nuff said) haha
CKA..... seconds (yay mom)
and
Drum roll Please
Roe, Liked it!
We even caught him sneaking back to the table to get another bite from his plate after we had gotten up.
I had originally thought that TA and I may want to put a little shred cheese on top but really it was un-necessary. The allergy friendly version was delish!

I just happened to stumble on this while searching for turkey shepherd's pie last night. My 2 year old has EoE. I made this last night and it was FANTASTIC! Mine didn't stay together as nicely as yours once it was served, we had to use bowls but it was still so yummy! Great recipe, this is going in our regular rotation! Thank you for this recipe and wonderful blog!!
